Wrapping Up the 2026 SDAA State Field Championships

This past weekend, top archers from across the state converged on Yankton, South Dakota—a city well-known as a premier hub for archery—to compete in the 2026 South Dakota State Field Championships.

Hosted by the South Dakota Archers Association (SDAA) on June 13-14, 2026, the event brought together a dedicated field of 32 registered archers to test their precision, consistency, and focus on the outdoor ranges. Over the course of the weekend, competitors tackled challenging field, hunter, and animal rounds across three distinct scoring phases, ultimately showcasing incredible local talent across multiple divisions.

Weekend Highlights and Overall Champions

While Day 1 set the pace, the final standings required intense focus through the entire weekend. Here is a look at the standout performances based on their final combined scores:

• Freestyle Professional Adult Male (FS PM): Grady Kane put on a masterclass in precision, maintaining his dominance through all three rounds. He finished with a staggering total score of 859 points and cleared the X-ring an incredible 76 times.
• Freestyle Adult Male (FS AM): The Adult Male division saw tight competition, but Jacob McArthur secured the top spot with a final score of 779 points and 64 X's. He was closely trailed by Colin Healy, who finished a strong second with 772 points and 60 X's.
• Freestyle Adult Female (FS AF): Maren Sanders commanded her division from start to finish. She wrapped up her weekend with a final score of 755 points, hitting 42 X's along the way.
• Freestyle Senior Male (FS SM): Dennis Husman delivered a highly disciplined performance to win his division, posting a total score of 763 points and 43 X's.
• Bowhunter Freestyle Adult Female (BHFS AF): Nicole Schmitz led the way in the bowhunter division, securing a solid final score of 716 points with 21 X's.
• Youth Divisions: The future of South Dakota archery looks bright. Tucker Wickre (Freestyle Youth Male) took home a final score of 736 points with 27 X's, while Turner Wickre (Freestyle Cub Male) finished an excellent weekend with 712 points and 21 X's.

The 2026 championships successfully highlighted the tight-knit but deeply talented pool within the South Dakota Archers Association, from the young "Cub" shooters all the way up to the seasoned professionals. Congratulations to all who participated and braved the outdoor elements!
